Alice Angus Spirit Safe Collection

Complimentary Premium Shipping

Campbeltown and the Kintyre Peninsula has long been a source of inspiration for artists locally and from further afield. In 2022, Glen Scotia was delighted to partner with Scottish artist, Alice Angus, who over a number of months visited the distillery and surrounding Campbeltown to absorb its essence, culminating in four magnificent paintings, which Alice entitled ‘Spirit Safe’. We felt that artwork this special deserved a very special limited edition bottling.

  • Only 120 bottles of this incredibly limited release are available worldwide. To celebrate work this special, we selected remnants of a deep and distinguished unpeated 30-year-old single malt, matured in European oak casks, taste tested by Alice and Iain McAlister during Alice’s residency at the distillery. Each of the 120 bottles bears one of Alice’s four ‘Spirit Safe’ paintings, presented in a rigid display box which makes them a fantastic addition to any Campbeltown single malt lover’s whisky shelf or collection.

Tasting notes

NOSE

Thick perfumed floral notes of violet and lavender are intertwined with bracing sea spray.

TASTE

Freshly sliced green apple and silky honeyed pear are followed by ground ginger spice and dark chocolate.

FINISH

The finish is long with a roasted sugar sweetness.

A person with glasses stands on a blue metal staircase beside an aged brick wall, holding a notebook and pen. A large metallic cylinder with "GLEN" partially visible is to the left. The scene looks like an industrial or rugged historical site.

Alice Angus

Like whisky production, Alice’s technique involves patience, time and experimentation. She uses pencil, watercolour and ink to draw from life, spending a long time observing her surroundings through sight, sound, smell and touch, often waiting for the right moment, drawing similarities with the time and craftsmanship required in whisky-making. Some of her works are completed on-site directly from life and others are developed in the studio into larger-scale artworks.

With a keen curiosity in her natural surroundings, Alice Angus was educated at Glasgow School of Art, later relocating to London. However, she remains forever inspired by the country and splits her time between the two places. Her body of work includes works on paper, video, audio and textiles and ranges from large curatorial, collaborative projects to individual commissions, public artworks, community projects and research. She has undertaken residencies and projects in many places, urban and rural, from Lancaster to the Canadian Arctic.

“My Spirit Safe series was inspired by the generations of dedicated people, the Campbeltown community, the unique coastal landscape, the ingredients, skills, engineering, and care that goes into making Glen Scotia, and all rhythms of time across hours, days, years, and decades involved in its creation”.
