Glen Scotia & Alice Angus

Distillers One of One

Glen Scotia is delighted to unveil this exquisite one-off collaboration which has been donated to the coveted Distillers 1 of 1 auction. This 49 Year Old (42.5% ABV) bottling is a masterpiece, with extraordinary whisky drawn from the distillery’s oldest remaining cask reserves and is the oldest release from the distillery to date. The auction lot comes with an original artwork from Alice Angus, the distillery's artist in residence, as well as a unique, hand painted walnut display case which showcases the distillery and the people that craft this award winning whisky.

a unique collaboration between whisky and music

CAMPBELTOWN AND THE KINTYRE PENINSULA HAS LONG BEEN A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR MUSICIANS, POETS AND ARTISTS. IT HAS PRODUCED ITS FAIR SHARE TOO! MUSIC AND OUR WHISKY GO HAND IN HAND, SO GLEN SCOTIA WAS DELIGHTED TO INVITE MUSICIANS NEIL RIDLEY, JENNY STURGEON, AND DEAN HONER TO CREATE A UNIQUE COMPOSITION THAT CAPTURES THE SOUND AND ESSENCE OF OUR HOME. WE UNVEILED THESE TWO INCREDIBLE TRACKS AT THE CAMPBELTOWN MALTS FESTIVAL 2023, THROUGH A VERY SPECIAL IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE PLUS TALKS AND TASTINGS WITH THE ARTISTS THEMSELVES.

“My Spirit Safe series was inspired by the generations of dedicated people, the Campbeltown community, the unique coastal landscape, the ingredients, skills, engineering, and care that goes into making Glen Scotia, and all rhythms of time across hours, days, years, and decades involved in its creation”.

ALICE ANGUS

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Like whisky production, Alice’s technique involves patience, time and experimentation. She uses pencil, watercolour and ink to draw from life, spending a long time observing her surroundings through sight, sound, smell and touch, often waiting for the right moment, drawing similarities with the time and craftsmanship required in whisky-making. Some of her works are completed on-site directly from life and others are developed in the studio into larger-scale artworks.

Heart of the run

Also included in the donation is a one-of-a-kind framed artwork ‘Heart of the Run’ from Alice Angus and Glen Scotia’s ‘Spirit Safe’ exhibition. The exhibition was launched following Alice’s Glen Scotia residency, where she spent multiple weeks capturing the essence of the fifth whisky region, its history, unique coastal landscape and its most award-winning and enduring distillery.

‘Heart of the Run’ was inspired by the heat, steam, smells and sounds of the still room, and the knowledge involved in the creation of whisky, knowing at just the right moment when it is ready.
